I’d like to introduce my protégé, Poonam Gupta, winemaker to the Kaz family of wines.
I oversaw the winemaking process, but she is now fully at the helm with Anandam wines.
Growing up in India, Poonam developed a deep love for nature, which led her to study botany.
After moving to America and entering the tech world, gardening became her creative outlet.
She and her husband, Rajesh, eventually purchased Oasis Vineyard, one of the
Boatique Winery vineyards in the Red Hills AVA of Lake County.
Together with vineyard master George Lolonis, Poonam worked tirelessly to revive the existing
Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vines, all under strict organic protocols. The vineyard set against
sweeping views of the valley and Mt. Konocti, an extinct volcano, became the perfect canvas for her vision.
Poonam chose to craft her wines with intention, joy, and a commitment to going beyond organic
practices. Inspired by the no‑sulfite wines pioneered by me, “Kaz Senior” for over 20 years,
she embraced a similar philosophy. Ryan Kaz Jr., creator of all Kaz Wines labels, helped bring
Poonam’s vision for life through her branding. The name ANANDAM, Sanskrit for ecstatic happiness,
reflects both her heritage and the spirit she pours into every bottle.
